Can I search inside attachments?
Yes — FabricLoop extracts text from PDFs and other text-like files so search can match what's inside, not only the filename.
Yes. For supported files, FabricLoop extracts text into a search index. A query can match that extracted text, not just the filename.
How to find a file by what's inside
- Open Search and type a phrase you remember from the document.
- In the apps, filter to File, or use Filters → Has file / File types if you want only attachments.
- Open a file result. The snippet may show a stretch of extracted text, not only the name.
Extraction runs after upload (and in a background pass for files that don't have text yet). A brand-new PDF might take a short while before its contents are searchable.
Supported types
Text is extracted from:
- PDFs
- Text-like files, including
.txt, Markdown, CSV, JSON, RTF, HTML, XML, and YAML - Anything with a
text/MIME type
Images, video, and audio can still appear in search by filename (and you can filter by those file types), but FabricLoop does not OCR photos or transcribe media into this index. Encrypted or scan-only PDFs with no real text layer often extract as empty.
Very large files (over about 10 MB) are skipped. Extracted text is capped so a huge dump doesn't dominate the index.
Tips
- Prefer a distinctive phrase from the body of the doc over a generic word that appears in every message.
- If you only remember the file name, search that — names are indexed even when extraction isn't supported.
- Comment attachments are included in workspace search the same way message and note files are, once text has been extracted.
