Open Settings → Notifications to choose push and email for each kind of alert, then mute or override noisy channels separately.
Turn push and email on or off
- Open Settings → Notifications.
- For each notification type (for example Direct Messages, task assignments, @mentions, events, and daily or weekly summaries), toggle Push and Email. Types that don’t support a delivery method hide that toggle — Daily Summary and Weekly Summary are email-only.
- Changes save as you go on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On the web, tap Update notifications.
On iPhone, the same screen also shows whether this device is allowed to alert you. If alerts are off, tap Turn On Alerts or Open iOS Settings so banners, sounds, and badges can reach you.
Set defaults for channels and groups
- In Settings → Notifications, find What to notify you about.
- Set the picker — Channels & groups on iPhone, iPad, and Mac; Notifications on the web — to All new messages, Mentions only, or Nothing.
- Optionally turn on Suppress @channel and @here if those broadcasts are too noisy.
- Keep Replies to threads you follow on if you want follow-up in threads you’ve joined.
Mute a specific channel
- In Messages, long-press or right-click the channel and choose Mute, or Change notifications.
- Pick a notify level, or turn on Mute this channel. Muting stops that channel counting toward the Messages badge; mentions still show when you open it.
- Review overrides later under Settings → Notifications → Exceptions to the defaults, where you can Reset a channel or Unmute a muted thread.
See How do mute, @here, and @channel work? for @here, @channel, and thread mute.
Tips
- Notification choices are yours alone — muting a channel does not mute it for anyone else.
- If Notifications is missing from the web Settings list, use the native app or ask an admin; channel mute still lives on each group.
- See message notifications for how this fits with chat.
