How do I change notification preferences?

Control push, email, and per-channel alerts from Settings.

Updated 2026-08-13

Open Settings → Notifications to choose push and email for each kind of alert, then mute or override noisy channels separately.

Turn push and email on or off

  1. Open Settings → Notifications.
  2. For each notification type (for example Direct Messages, task assignments, @mentions, events, and daily or weekly summaries), toggle Push and Email. Types that don't support a delivery method hide that toggle — Daily Summary and Weekly Summary are email-only.
  3. Changes save as you go on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On the web, tap Update notifications.

On iPhone, the same screen also shows whether this device is allowed to alert you. If alerts are off, tap Turn On Alerts or Open iOS Settings so banners, sounds, and badges can reach you.

Set defaults for channels and groups

  1. In Settings → Notifications, find What to notify you about.
  2. Set Channels & groups to All new messages, Mentions only, or Nothing.
  3. Optionally turn on Suppress @channel and @here if those broadcasts are too noisy.
  4. Keep Replies to threads you follow on if you want follow-up in threads you've joined.

Mute a specific channel

  1. Open the group's info sheet (or long-press the group and choose change notifications).
  2. Pick a level, or turn on Mute. Muting stops that group counting towards the Messages badge; mentions still show when you open the group.
  3. Review overrides later under Settings → Notifications → Exceptions to the defaults, where you can Reset a channel or Unmute a muted thread.
