How do team permissions work?
Owners and admins assign Owner, Admin, and Editor roles from Team Permissions.
Updated 2026-08-13
Owners and admins change each person's workspace role from Settings → Team Permissions — there isn't a separate grid of task or note checkboxes.
Change someone's role
- Sign in as an owner or admin.
- Open Settings → Team Permissions (the screen title is Permissions on iPhone).
- Find the person and pick Editor, Admin, or Owner.
- On the web, tap Update team permissions. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, the change saves when you leave the screen.
What you cannot do here
Team Permissions only assigns the three workspace roles. Who can open a note or a private channel still follows group membership, not this screen.
FabricLoop will not let you demote the last owner. Make someone else an owner first, then change the previous owner's role.
Tips
- If you don't see Team Permissions in Settings, your role is Editor — ask an owner or admin.
- New teammates join as editors unless you change them here.
- Organisation-wide sign-in (SSO) is a different screen: Settings → Organisation access. See SSO / SAML.
