How do I manage message notifications?
Choose which channels notify you and how push, email, and desktop alerts work.
Updated 2026-08-13
Notification preferences work at two levels: a global default for how you want to be notified, and per-channel overrides for the channels that need different treatment.
Steps
- Open Settings → Notifications to set your defaults for push, email, and desktop alerts.
- Open a specific channel's notification settings to override the default — for example, muting a busy channel whilst keeping push on everywhere else.
- Save. Changes apply immediately across your signed-in devices.
What you can control
- Push notifications on mobile and desktop.
- Email digests or alerts for messages you might have missed.
- Per-channel behaviour: all messages, mentions only, or muted.
Tips
- @mentions can be configured to notify you even in a muted channel — check your channel-level settings if you want a true hard mute.
- Notification settings are personal; muting a channel for yourself doesn't change anything for other members.
