How do I edit or delete a message?

Correct typos or remove a message you no longer need.

Hover or long-press your own message to reveal edit and delete options — you can fix a typo or remove it entirely.

Steps

1. Hover over your message (or long-press on mobile) to show the message menu.
2. Choose Edit to change the text, or Delete to remove the message.
3. If editing, update the text and confirm — the message is marked as edited so others can see it changed.
4. If deleting, confirm the removal. This can't be undone.

Permissions

You can always edit or delete your own messages. Workspace admins and owners can typically remove any message in a channel they moderate, even ones they didn't send — useful for cleaning up spam or off-topic posts.

Tips

• Deleting a message also removes it from search and any thread it started.
• If a message has already been read and reacted to, deleting it removes those reactions too — consider editing instead if you just need to fix a mistake.
