How do I create a task?
Create a task from the Tasks surface or from a conversation so work stays linked to context.
Updated 2026-08-13
Create a task from the Tasks surface for standalone work, or straight out of a message when the work grows out of a conversation.
From the Tasks surface
- Open Tasks and click New task.
- Give it a clear title — this is what shows up in list, Kanban, and calendar views.
- Choose a group if your workspace organises tasks that way, then save.
- Add an assignee, due date, and any details once it's created — see assigning a task and setting due dates.
From a conversation
- Hover over the message that describes the work.
- Choose Create task from the message menu.
- FabricLoop pre-fills the task from the message and links back to the original conversation, so anyone on the task can jump to the context it came from.
Tips
- A task doesn't need every field filled in right away — title and owner are usually enough to get started.
- Duplicate a similar task instead of building a recurring one from scratch each time.
