How do I reply in a thread?

Keep side conversations in threads so the main channel stays readable.

Replying in a thread keeps a side discussion attached to the original message instead of scattering it down the channel.

Steps

1. Hover (or long-press on mobile) over the message you want to reply to.
2. Click Reply.
3. Type your reply and send — it's added to that message's thread, not the main channel feed.
4. Anyone who's part of the thread can follow it to get notified of new replies, even if they don't watch the whole channel closely.

Tips

• If a reply matters to everyone in the channel, it's fine to also post a short update in the main feed — threads are for keeping detail out of the way, not for hiding important decisions.
• AI agents and apps you @mention inside a thread reply within that same thread, so the back-and-forth stays contained.
