How do groups work?

Groups organise channels, notes, and access for teams inside a workspace.

Updated 2026-09-08

Groups are how FabricLoop organises channels, notes, tasks, and news — a real team (Marketing) or a project (Q3 Launch) can each be a group.

Create a group

  1. Open Settings → Manage Groups (labelled Groups on the web).
  2. Tap + (or type a name in New Group on the web) and enter a group name.
  3. Optionally turn on Private. Private groups are only visible to the people you add, including on the free plan.
  4. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, you can also mark a public group Default for new members so everyone already in the workspace joins immediately and future joiners are added automatically.
  5. Tap Create (or Add new).

Add or remove members

  1. Open the same Manage Groups list.
  2. Tap the people control on a group (avatars, or Add on a private group on the web).
  3. Select who should belong. For private groups, only those people can see the group.
  4. Owners and admins can swipe to delete a group (or tap Remove on the web) and rename it. Editors can create groups they can see, but can't rename or delete them.

Tips

  • Filter tasks, notes, and news by group when you want to focus on one team or project.
  • A person can belong to many groups. Access to a note follows the group the note lives in — see Who can edit a note?.
  • Public groups show a #; private groups show a lock.
  • Free workspaces can have up to 10 groups, including private ones. Creating an 11th group opens the upgrade screen — see What is included in the free plan?.
  • In chat, a group is the channel. You can leave a channel without deleting the group for everyone else.
