How do task blockers work?

Name the task you are waiting on, or write why, before work sits in Blocked.

Updated 2026-10-08

A blocked task names the task it is waiting on, or a short reason, or both. The Blocked section asks for one of those before a card moves in.

From the task

  1. Open the task.
  2. In Structure, tap Add.
  3. Choose Blocked by, then search for the task you are waiting on.
  4. Or choose Blocked reason and type why. The field says Why is this blocked?
  5. Tap × on a blocker or on the reason to remove it.
  6. The task you are waiting on shows Blocking and a link back.

Move it into Blocked

  1. Drag the task into Blocked in list or Kanban, or pick Blocked from the section menu on the task.
  2. If it has no blocker and no reason yet, FabricLoop opens Blocked.
  3. Search for the task you are waiting on, type a reason, or do both.
  4. Tap Move. Move stays off until there is a task or a reason.
  5. Tap Cancel to leave the task in its previous section.

Leave Blocked

Move the task out of Blocked into any section except Done. FabricLoop clears the blocker links and the reason.

Tips

  • A task cannot block itself, and FabricLoop rejects a loop where tasks block each other in a circle.
  • Owners and admins can reorder Blocked from Settings → Manage Task Sections. They cannot delete it.
  • List rows and Kanban cards show the reason, or Blocked by, and Blocking when this task is holding something else up.
