How do I create a channel?

Create a channel for a team, project, or topic so messages stay organised.

A channel is a shared space for a team, project, or topic — create one whenever a conversation deserves its own home instead of living in DMs.

Steps

1. Click New channel (or the + next to Channels in the sidebar).
2. Give it a clear, specific name — teammates will judge whether to join by the name alone.
3. Add members, or attach the channel to a group so its membership follows the group.
4. Create the channel. It appears in the sidebar for everyone you added.

Tips

• Prefer a few well-named channels over one giant one — it makes search and notifications more useful.
• You can add or remove members from a channel later; it doesn't have to be final on day one.
• Public channels within a group are typically discoverable by group members, so people can find and join relevant conversations themselves.
