How do I install a channel app?

Add an app to a channel so you can message it where the work happens, or so its events land in the feed.

Updated 2026-09-12

Open the channel's Apps & agents screen and pick how the app should work: a direct connection (events land in the channel) or MCP (you @mention it in chat).

From the channel

  1. Open the channel, then open Apps and Agents from the header menu (•••).
  2. If the channel is empty, pick Add app (direct connection) or Add app (MCP). If it already has apps or agents, tap + and choose the same options.
  3. Select the app from the catalogue and complete Connect if the vendor needs a sign-in. On the web, authorisation often opens in a new tab — finish install there, then come back. You may see Connected — choose repositories and events to finish binding (or a similar toast).
  4. FabricLoop reads the installation_id from GitHub's redirect automatically and finishes the connection — there's no code or ID to copy yourself.
  5. When status is active, the app is bound to that channel (Direct) or ready to @mention (MCP).

Direct is for things that happen elsewhere and should post here — pull requests, tickets, form submissions. MCP is for asking the app questions or taking actions with @GitHub, @Linear, and similar.

From the Apps catalogue

  1. Open Settings → Apps, AI Hub → Apps, or Team (installed apps are listed there, split into MCP and Direct).
  2. Browse Catalogue (or search) for the app.
  3. Under Direct, tap Add to channel. Pick the channel if asked, then complete Connect.
  4. For a Direct app already installed, Team shows the channels it is on — open a channel to change what it follows.

MCP apps work differently: an admin enables them for the whole workspace, then each person connects their account. Those apps can be mentioned in any channel. See How do I set up an MCP app?.

You can also add an AI agent from the same chooser.

App event cards

Direct apps post event cards in the channel (pull requests, tickets, deploys). Cards show a status — for example Merged, Closed, Approved, or a Slack/Asana outcome — and GitHub cards include the PR or issue description when GitHub sends one.

On an open GitHub pull request (not a draft), the card can include Approve and Merge. Those buttons use your connected GitHub account.

Tips

  • Direct integrations are per channel ("On channel"). MCP connections are workspace-wide.
  • You need access to the channel to bind a Direct app. Enabling MCP apps for the workspace is admin or owner only.
  • Incoming webhook apps create a URL shown once — copy it before you close the sheet.
